The news of Alexis Saelemaekers’ injury is certainly not ideal. However, AC Milan feel they can cope with the help of a summer signing.

There is no denying that Saelemaekers’ situation is an interesting one. In the summer, Massimiliano Allegri kept him at the club; now, he is probably the most important player in the team. Without him, the system becomes a bit difficult to imagine.

However, it may just be a pre-emptive worry, and Milan may actually be able to manage without him.

Athekame ready

Reports this morning suggested that there were three possible options to alleviate the issue of not having the Belgian available. Now, though, it seems Allegri may be able to continue as normal, with a direct replacement.

As Gazzetta dello Sport wrote this morning, via MilanNews, it may be the time for Zachary Athekame against Fiorentina. The spot ‘should’ be taken by the young Swiss full-back, and he is ‘ready’ to make his debut.

It would add to a fantastic week for the youngster, after he was given a first senior call-up to the Switzerland national team. The reasoning for that was due to absences, and his Rossoneri debut could be down to the same thing.

A chance to announce himself for club and country, indeed.
