Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, recently opened up about his once-dream of being in the NFL like the Kelce brothers on the New Heights podcast. Before achieving wrestling and acting stardom, Johnson had an interest in football, having played in college and the Canadian Football League. Unfortunately, his career was cut short when he was released from Calgary’s 1995 season.
Dwayne Johnson says he wanted to be in NFL
In a conversation on the New Heights podcast, Johnson opened up about his NFL aspirations that never materialized. Although he successfully established his name in the entertainment and wrestling industry, he revealed that he wanted an NFL career like the Kelce brothers. He said, “I wanted your life. I wanted to be in the NFL. That was my goal, and it wound up being the best thing that actually never happened for me.”
Although his NFL dream never came true, he still has a deep admiration for the Kelce brothers for their successful careers, describing it as a “legacy that defines brotherhood and excellence.” At present, Travis is still a part of the NFL, playing for the Kansas City Chiefs, whereas Kelce retired from the sport in 2024 and is currently involved in the media industry.
In an old conversation with Sport Bible, Johnson shared his regrets about not being able to fulfill his dream of becoming an NFL player. He said, “Not only did I play for a college football team, at that time I played for the best college football team in the country, the University of Miami. We were national champions. And the number one goal was to play in the NFL, the National Football League, and that did not happen for me.”
Reflecting on the failure, he added, “That was hard. It was a hard kick in the gut. Because I’d worked for years and years and years to make it into the NFL, and I didn’t. My friends around me were making it, and they were becoming millionaires and buying their parents houses. All the dreams that we all had, they were living the dreams and I was not. I was actually living a nightmare.” (via Fox Sports)
