Rick Pitino believes Bryce Hopkins has more to give.

He hasn’t necessarily been disappointed by the Providence transfer forward so far, but the St. John’s coach thinks there is untapped potential in the former All-Big East First-Team selection.

“Bryce is a great guy, but he’s been good and solid the entire summer, and now I’m not after good and solid — I’m after great and passionate,” Pitino said on Thursday, as fifth-ranked St. John’s held media day at Carnesecca Arena. “And once he reaches that mentality, you’re gonna see one of the best players in the country.”

Pitino is known to push his best players to a point they didn’t know they could reach.
