Canada’s Leylah Fernandez is off to the semifinals of the Japan Open tennis tournament.
Fernandez defeated Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova 7-6 (2), 6-3 in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
The Laval, Que., native had one ace to three double faults but broke on four of her nine chances in the match.
Sramkova also had one ace, but committed seven double faults. The Slovakian converted two of her three break-point chances.
Fernandez will next face the winner between Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic and Romania’s Sorana Cirstea.
