Verizon users across the US are experiencing issues with the mobile and internet services. The Verizon service outage started early Friday (October 17) in major cities including New York, Boston and Washington D.C. As reported by Downdetector, the outage started late on Thursday night and triggered thousands of complaints on tracking site, peaking at over 7,500 reports shortly after midnight. Users were also seen reporting ’SOS’ or ‘Emergency Calls Only’ messages on their devices indicating a complete loss of connectivity. The service outage affected both mobile phone service and 5G internet connectivity. Users also reported that they were not able to make calls, send texts or access online services.
Gradual recovery
As per Downdetector, the number of outage reports started to decline after 1.30 am, however, still a lot of users are reporting about the issue. The Downdetector data highlights that around 52% users faced issue with mobile connectivity, while 40% had no signal and around 8% had issue with 5G home internet. Verizon has not yet issued any detailed explanation about the service outage, but previous outages have been linked to software issues and network configuration errors.Along with New York, Boston, and Washington, users in Chicago, Seattle, Phoenix, and Atlanta also reported service interruptions.
