Frances Tiafoe has ended his tennis season early after splitting with two key members of his team.

Tiafoe, the world No. 29, said that 2025 “wasn’t the season I hoped for” and said that it was “time for a change” in a social media post confirming that he will not play again this year. Jordi Anaconda, a longstanding member of his team, had previously confirmed his departure after five years, and David Witt, Tiafoe’s principal coach, said that he and Tiafoe had split in a separate social media post.

“Thanks, Big Foe, for the ride this last year and a half. Some things come to an end, but good memories, great times, and a friendship last forever. Thanks, brotha — nothing but love,” Witt said.

Tiafoe, 27, played 49 matches in 2025 and won 26, making it his worst season by win percentage since 2019, the last time that he lost more matches than he won in a year. He lost all six of his matches against higher-ranked opposition, and went 26-17 against players below him, including a 5-6 record against players outside the top 100.

The U.S. hard-court swing through the D.C. Open in Washington, D.C. — his home tournament — the Cincinnati Open and the U.S. Open was particularly challenging.

The American last year reached the semifinals, final, and semifinals respectively in those events; this year he reached the quarterfinals in D.C., but lost in the round of 16 and the round of 32 in the following two tournaments. He appointed Witt just before that strong run, which was a promising start to a partnership that Tiafoe said let him thrive as his own person.

Witt’s reputation as one of the more laid-back souls in the game was one of the reasons Tiafoe hired him.

“I can get really high and pretty low, and he keeps me even-keeled,” he said. “Not allowing moments to be bigger than they are, or to be as strenuous as I can sometimes make them,” he said in an interview ahead of the 2024 U.S. Open.

Their partnership ends with Tiafoe in the same place in the world rankings as he was when it began.
