Tired Baby Elephant Hitches a Jumbo-Sized Piggyback Ride From His Friend originally appeared on PetHelpful.
Elephants have a passion for life and their bonds are often just as strong as the family bonds that humans have. Growing up, I had a ton of cousins, and a few of them were really more like siblings. We did everything together, and they made life fun!
Well, young elephants make similar connections with others who are close to their age, and it is just as adorable as you would expect! One evening, as the elephant herd was returning home for the night, cousins Lenny and Zigi were spotted hamming it up for the camera—especially Zigi!
On this occasion, Lenny is the leader of the pack. He is front and center, leading the group down the path toward home, when Zigi, his cousin who is full of spunk, decided that an extra-large piggyback ride would be more fun than having to walk on his own.
As they walk down the path, Zigi has his two front legs up on Lenny’s back. Apparently, just using his hind legs for walking is much less strenuous than actually using all four legs!
This silliness continues until one of the matriarchal members, Nanny Enkesha, as she is affectionately called, uses her long trunk to discourage Zigi from trying to hop on again!

Let’s zoom in on the comment section for their reactions to these two elephants!
“I just love their connection. Zigi fits right into the fold so nicely! They’re so adorable!!”
“Looks like Zigi popped a wheelie at the end! Adorable!”
“Your Enkesha has it covered though! I can hear her now, ‘Okay, that’s enough. It’s all fun and games until somebody gets mad.’”
“When it’s your turn to do the big job and you’re doing it perfectly, but your friend is acting the fool! LOL!”
We were recently introduced to a trio of baby elephants who are all part of the Umani herd. They are the next generation of little pachyderms from formerly rescued mama elephants. The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust goes to great lengths to reintegrate elephants back into the wild. The circle of life for this herd is a true testament to the dedication of the team.
Currently, they have counted 77 elephants who have been born to former orphaned elephants that they raised. The best part is that the herds are so close to the keepers that even when they are fully out in the wild, they come back with their little baby elephants to share them with their human family.
