The author of the book “Bicycling with Butterflies” is scheduled to visit the Colorado Mountain College campus in Steamboat Springs on Oct. 23 as part of the school’s Common Reader program.

Dykman’s book documents her 10,201-mile bike trip following the migration of monarch butterflies.

The book received the 2021 National Outdoor Book Award and was praised by the late Jane Goodall, who passed away Oct. 1. The renowned primatologist and conservationist called Dykman’s work “an extraordinary story” and “a lament for our thoughtfulness destruction of nature and at the same time, a celebration of the beauty that remains.”

Locally, Dykman will appear at CMC Steamboat from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23. Besides interacting with the author, attendees can expect a slide presentation and book signing. Complementary copies of “Bicycling with Butterflies” will be available at the event.
