Tucker DeVries at IU's exhibition opener at Assembly Hall.

Quick thoughts on IU’s 107-46 exhibition win against Marian University:

Three keys to IU’s win

Tucker DeVries comes out hot

In his first appearance at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, Tucker DeVries came out firing.

The two-time MVC player of the year scored IU’s first nine points, setting the tone for a lopsided first half.

DeVries scored in a variety of ways to open the game. He hit a 3-pointer, a stepback jumper, a dunk and a pair of free throws.

IU fills it up from distance in first half

Indiana set the tone with its perimeter shooting in the first half.

The Hoosiers, who made 12 3-pointers in a game a total of twice over the previous four seasons, went 12-for-20 from distance in the opening 20 minutes and led by as many as 46 points.

Six different Hoosiers made a 3-pointer in the first half as IU scored 1.86 points per possession.

Hoosiers set the tone defensively early

Against an overmatched opponent, Indiana dominated the first half defensively. Marian managed just 22 points and scored .61 points per possession in the opening 20 minutes.

The Hoosiers had very few breakdowns, closed out well on shooters and didn’t allow an offensive rebound in the first half.

Coupled with its red-hot offense, the stellar defense allowed the Hoosiers to roll to a comfortable exhibition victory.

Standout performers

DeVries set the pace for the Hoosiers and scored 23 points on 7-for-9 shooting in 22 minutes.

Freshman Trent Sisley also had 23 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field, including a 4-for-4 mark on 3-pointers. Sisley added six rebounds and three assists in 26 minutes.

Senior Sam Alexis posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in 18 minutes to go along with three blocked shots.

What’s next for the Hoosiers

Indiana concludes exhibition play on Sunday, October 26 against Baylor at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. ET on B1G+.
