The Washington Capitals placed Pierre-Luc Dubois on injured reserve Saturday afternoon.
In an accompanying roster move, defenseman Dylan McIlrath was added back to the Capitals’ active roster after successfully rehabbing a lower-body injury suffered on October 4 during the Capitals’ final preseason game.
Dubois’s IR designation means he must miss at least seven days retroactive to the date when he was originally hurt — a lower-body injury suffered on October 12 against the Rangers. Dubois is eligible to return for the Capitals’ game against the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday, but Spencer Carbery ruled him out after practice, as the French Canadian centerman skated in a non-contact jersey for the second consecutive day.
“Well, it won’t be tomorrow, for sure,” Carbery said. “At some point, he’s going to have to get into a regular jersey, so hopefully, Monday and we’ll see where it goes but too early to tell.”
PLD’s move to IR completes a busy week of transactions for the Capitals, which saw Vincent Iorio put on waivers and claimed by the Vancouver Canucks. The Capitals also recalled Ethen Frank from AHL Hershey as depth for PLD’s injury.
With Dubois out, the Capitals moved Connor McMichael from the wing back to center and have had Hendrix Lapierre be the team’s third-line center.
