With the preseason over, the Los Angeles Lakers can focus on preparing for their regular-season opener on Tuesday and finding a way to start the season off well, despite LeBron James being sidelined due to sciatica.

Right now, James and rookie forward Adou Thiero are their only players on standard contracts who are unable to play. That means the Lakers have the liberty of making roster cuts, as they will not need to rely on players who have two-way contracts or Exhibit 10 deals at the moment.

On Saturday, the team announced that it had waived RJ Davis, Augustas MarĨiulionis, Anton Watson and Nate Williams.

MarĨiulionis, the son of Hall of Fame Å arÅ«nas MarĨiulionis, didn’t play in the preseason due to a foot injury. Watson and Williams didn’t do a whole lot during the exhibition season, but Davis, a six-foot guard from the University of North Carolina, did play well in short spurts.

He appeared in five preseason games this month and reached double-figures in scoring three times. In L.A.’s first exhibition contest on Oct. 3 versus the Phoenix Suns, Davis hit five of eight shots from the field and scored 14 points in just 18 minutes. His best season in college came during the 2023-24 campaign when he averaged 21.2 points a game and hit 39.8% from 3-point range while being named the ACC Player of the Year.
