Pets are loving companions. Something to cuddle with. Someone to talk to.
And, apparently, if AI creates versions of them as a people, some pet owners would totally be down to date them.
According to MetLife, when the insurance company asked 1,000 people on whether or not they would date an AI-generated person version of their pet, 31 percent of respondents said “yes.”
Additionally, when asked what they think their pet’s personality would be, the majority of people said “mischievous and playful.” As for red flags, 42 percent of respondents believe this human version of their pet would need constant attention.
“Imagine your pet as a person,” the report reads. “Would you fall head over heels, or run the other way?
“Inspired by a viral TikTok trend, MetLife Pet Insurance surveyed 1,000 U.S. pet owners to explore the emotional depth of their human-pet bond. From AI-generated pet portraits to choosing apartments based on pet compatibility, the results reveal just how deeply pets influence their owners’ hearts and lives.”
In a non-romantic facet of the study, two thirds of those who took the survey (66 percent) stated that they put their pet’s needs before their own. One in five admitted that they spend more on gifts for their pet’s birthday or on holidays than on those for the humans in their lives.
“This lighthearted yet meaningful look at the pet-owner bond shows just how deep the connections between animals and humans can be,” the report concludes. “From emotional support to everyday decisions, pets shape our lives in big and small ways.
“Many pet owners center their routines, budgets, and even relationships around them. In the end, the question isn’t just whether you’d date your pet, but who much they already mean to your life. In the end, the question isn’t whether you’d date your pet, but how much they already mean to your life.”
