Indiana Pacers guard Kam Jones has been arrested in Indianapolis, just one day before the start of the 2025–26 NBA season.
According to Mike Potter of WTHR-13 News, a state trooper attempted to stop Jones for “erratic driving” at around 9:50 am Eastern Time on Monday. The police said Jones did not comply and instead led officers on a chase along Interstate 65, which ended near the Fletcher Avenue exit, where he was taken into custody.
Jones, 23, was selected by Indiana with the 38th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. The 6ft 5in shooting guard joined the Pacers after a four-year college career at Marquette University.
He has missed the team’s entire preseason with a back injury and is expected to remain sidelined until at least next month, when the Pacers plan to reassess his fitness.
In a statement, the team said: “We are aware of the situation involving Kam Jones. We are in the process of gathering additional information and will not have any additional comment on the matter at this time.”
During his senior year at Marquette, Jones was named an All-American Second Team and All-Big East First Team selection, averaging 19.2 points, 5.9 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game across 34 appearances.
The Pacers signed Jones to a four-year contract — an uncommon commitment for a second-round pick.
Following the draft, Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard praised Jones’ attitude and potential, telling Forbes: “Tough kid. Loves the gym, lives for the gym. I like the fact that he played two and one… he reminds me, personality-wise, of Tyrese Haliburton. He’s hyper positive… he’s got that kind of an ‘it factor’ of ‘that’s a Pacer’. He’s a big-time worker. We’re excited.”
