1 killed, 2 hurt in suspected mobile home explosion in southern Indiana
FOR THE FIRST TIME. BUT WE START WITH LATE BREAKING NEWS. ONE PERSON DIED IN A MOBILE HOME EXPLOSION IN SOUTHERN INDIANA. INVESTIGATORS ARE STILL WORKING TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION IN SALEM EARLY THIS MORNING. THAT KILLED ONE WOMAN AND SENT TWO OTHER PEOPLE TO THE HOSPITAL. NORMAN SEAWRIGHT JOINS US LIVE FROM SALEM, WHERE NEIGHBORS ARE IN DISBELIEF. NORMAN. YEAH, REALLY. JUST TAKE A LOOK AT THIS. THIS IS THE TRAILER PARK WHERE THE SALEM FIRE DEPARTMENT SAYS THIS IS THE MOBILE HOME WHERE ONE PERSON WAS KILLED, BUT TWO OTHERS WERE ABLE TO ESCAPE. YOU CAN SEE THE DAMAGE TO THE SIDE OF THIS BUILDING. THE PLYWOOD IS WHERE PEOPLE HAVE COME BY SINCE THEN AND TRIED TO REPAIR IT. TRIED TO PATCH IT UP, BUT YOU CAN STILL SMELL THE EMBERS. YOU COULD SMELL THE SMOKE. AND IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT VIDEO FROM WLKY NEWS CHOPPER, YOU CAN STILL SEE SOME OF THE SAME DAMAGE. WE DID TALK WITH A NEIGHBOR WHO LIVES JUST RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO THIS PLACE, AND SAYS SHE’S BEEN VERY CLOSE WITH THE VICTIM SINCE MOVING IN HERE TWO YEARS AGO. THEY LOOK OUT FOR EACH OTHER, AND SHE SAYS JUST BEFORE 2 A.M., SHE DESCRIBED THE MOMENTS THIS MORNING WHEN SHE HEARD THAT EXPLOSION AFTER THE FIRST BLAST. MY DOGS WOKE ME UP. WE RAN OUTSIDE BECAUSE WE HEARD SCREAMING. BENNY WAS OUTSIDE HOLLERING, SAYING, FIRE! GET OUT, GET OUT. WE RUSHED, GOT DRESSED, GOT OUR DOGS, AND WE NOTICED THAT THE FLAMES WERE JUST OUT OF THE DOORS. BOTH DOORS WERE WIDE OPEN. THE WINDOWS WERE COMPLETELY BUSTED. THE FIRE WAS JUST OUT OF CONTROL. SHE SAYS SHE’S BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE SURVIVING VICTIM, SAYS THEY ARE RECOVERING WELL, BUT THEY’VE LOST EVERYTHING. SHE AND OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS ARE TRYING TO HELP THEM REPLACE WHAT THEY CAN, MOSTLY CLOTHING AND JUST TRYING TO HELP THEM GET BACK A SENSE OF SAFETY. A woman is dead and two others have burns after a suspected mobile home explosion in southern Indiana.Salem Fire Chief Mark Day said they were called around 1:40 a.m. Monday about a home on fire in the 100 block of Raneer Drive.When they arrived just minutes later, the home was 50-percent engulfed, Day said.A woman was found dead inside the home, the chief said. A woman is dead and two others have burns after a suspected mobile home explosion in southern Indiana.
Salem Fire Chief Mark Day said they were called around 1:40 a.m. Monday about a home on fire in the 100 block of Raneer Drive.
When they arrived just minutes later, the home was 50-percent engulfed, Day said.
