Kaleb Johnson captured his first career top-10 result racing with the PA Posse last Saturday at Lincoln Speedway.
“With the weather forecast for the World of Outlaws and Lincoln making an effort to get in the make-up feature we decided that was the best option for our team to race last weekend,” the Team DGRD driver said. “I think it went all right. It felt good to get a top 10.”
Johnson lined up 13th for the make-up feature of an event that rained out last month.
“I avoided three wrecks on the initial start so that put me in a good spot,” he said. “I felt a lot more comfortable. The track got pretty slick and was around the top. I think I was up to eighth or so after those early crashes. We went single file. I got by a guy and rolled around the top. It was a little tough to pass. You had to be super technical. I ended up getting passed with a couple to go for seventh. It was good to kinda be close to the front because our Pennsylvania swing had been a struggle.”
Johnson’s eighth-place result was his 26th top 10 of the season.
He qualified 11th quickest in his group and advanced a position to place fifth in a heat race to lock into the night’s final feature, in which he ended 16th.
“I was able to get a good initial start in the heat race,” he said. “We got to fifth and stayed there for the rest of the race. It was good to lock into the feature and not have to run the B Main.
“We rolled around 16th or 17th most of the feature. A few guys dropped out and I got passed by a few. It was good to go 50 laps. We struggled to find grip on the slick track so it was a good night of learning.”
Johnson will take the next two weeks off before ending the season Nov. 5-8 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., during the World of Outlaws World Finals with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
