The first round continues on Day 2 of the ATP Swiss Indoors Basel. We get to see Stan Wawrinka in action on Monday. The Swiss star has given no indication that he’s ending his career yet, but fans have to know their opportunities to see him are limited. The stadium should be raucous for his match. But who do you think will win? We also predict the rest of the day’s matches in a separate article.
ATP Basel Day 2 Predictions
Reilly Opelka vs Sebastian Baez
Opelka seems to not quite be able to find his old magic as he tries to return from injury. The serve is still huge, but it’s a bit less unbreakable. And the strong baseline game isn’t backing it up like it used to. Then again, Sebastian Baez hasn’t quite been the same since when he first burst onto the scene. I’ll go with the American because of his serve, but this really could go either way. Expect tiebreaks.
Prediction: Opelka in 2
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard vs Joao Fonseca
This match may well be the future of tennis. Both players seem to have hit roadblocks this year, but they each have astounding talent and should be competing for Slams and Masters for years. Right now, Mpetshi Perricard is in a bit of a funk, and I think Fonseca will take advantage of the environment to move on.
Prediction: Fonseca in 3
Stan Wawrinka vs Miomir Kecmanovic
I have no idea what Wawrinka has left in his tank. I do know that he loves this tournament and won’t want to disappoint his fans. He might not be able to go deep in tournaments anymore, but he can win one match in front of an adoring crowd. It also helps that Kecmanovic sometimes loses his cool–which this crowd will love to see.
Prediction: Wawrinka in 2
