Kristen Bell’s latest post of her husband Dax Shepard and one of their daughters is making people really mad. It’s not the picture itself, which features the Parenthood alum holding one of their daughters, Lincoln, 12, or Delta, 10, but the caption that sparked so much backlash.
She posted the sweet photo on Instagram of her husband in dad mode, as he hugs one of their daughters on the bed. The little girl wears a gray sweater and jeans as she wraps her arms around her dad, and he grips her head. The tender moment is punctuated by Bell’s caption, which many people were upset by.

“Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would,’❤️” Bell quipped in the caption.
People were notably upset by the casualness The Good Place star joked about domestic violence. One person wrote, “1. Congratulations! 2. I know the caption is supposed to be cute, funny, but worldwide a women is killed every ten minutes by their partner…#stopviolenceagainstwomen”
“Domestic violence isn’t a joke,” another wrote. Both comments received over 11,000 likes, meaning it clearly resonated with people.
Even the official Dateline Instagram account commented, writing, “Screenshotted” and receiving more than 46,000 likes.
It’s understandable that people are upset with her joking about her husband killing her, especially because October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. At the same time though, anyone who knows Bell and Shepard know they have a somewhat brunt, dark sense of humor. This is on brand for them.
Other people were weirdly confused if Shepard was holding Bell or one of their daughters. “Not us wondering if that’s one of your daughters or if you are in fact that little,” one person said. Another wrote, “Ill be honest, until I saw it was an anniversary post i thought he was holding one of his girls.”
Based on the stringy, chlorine-stained hair, tiny hands, and little size, it’s obvious to me that he is hugging Lincoln or Delta. People just always love finding something to complain about!
Earlier this month, Bell stepped out at the Season 2 premiere of Nobody Wants This in a sexy red lace dress. She shared that her daughters tried to stop her from wearing that outfit in public.
“My kids told me it was too sexy to wear out of the house,” Bell told Access Hollywood. “They said, ‘You can’t wear that.’ I said ‘Watch me!’”
It seems like their kids are just as sassy as her and Shepard are!
