The Thunder enter the season as the reigning NBA champions led by last season’s league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. They finished at the top of the Western Conference leaderboard with a 68-14 regular-season record, which earned them the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. They then advanced to the Finals where they defeated the Indiana Pacers in seven games to earn their first championship since relocating to Oklahoma City.

The Rockets finished second overall in the Western Conference last season with a 52-30 record, earning the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. However, they were upset by the No. 7 Golden State Warriors in the first round in seven games.
