JASPER COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – Internet and phone company TEC has started construction on a new project to expand high-speed broadband access to households in Jasper County.
The project spans approximately 90 miles and will include more than 700 households and businesses.
It was made possible through a $32.5 million investment from the Office of Broadband Expansion And Accessibility of Mississippi.
Leaders with TEC said the project will make access more convenient for people working from home, as well as those who use it for things like telehealth and education.
“In many cases, it’s just not feasible to get these fiber services out to the homes,” TEC Vice President of Integration David Freytag said. “So, this State of Mississippi grant allows us to reach these folks and bring high-quality, high-speed internet to all of the folks that are a part of the project, not just the bigger towns and cities.”
Freytag said the project should be complete by February 2026.
