Opportunity doesn’t always knock quietly. Sometimes, it bursts through the door, inviting everyone to step inside. That’s exactly what will happen later this week when the Worlds of Work (WOW) Career Expo returns to Tallahassee.
For two days, on Oct. 23–24, the campuses of Tallahassee State College and Lively Technical College will be transformed into a vibrant, interactive career showcase. The WOW Expo is designed to connect students with employers and give them a first-hand look at what different industries have to offer.
With more than 100 employers, 18 industries, and 11 distinct “worlds” represented, the event will host thousands of high school and college students as they explore careers through hands-on activities, demonstrations, and conversations with professionals.
That focus on students is critical. We know that sparking curiosity early helps young people set goals and make informed choices about their future. But the heart of WOW doesn’t stop with students. In fact, one of the most exciting parts of the event comes when the doors open wide to everyone in the community.
Now, for the first time, the public is invited to join on Thursday, October 23, from 2:00–5:00 p.m., when the Community WOW portion of the expo takes center stage. Unlike traditional career fairs, this isn’t just about collecting brochures or exchanging pleasantries. Community members who attend can sit down for real, on-site interviews with employers who are actively hiring for part-time, full-time, and internship positions. It is entirely possible to walk into Community WOW searching for opportunities and to walk out with multiple job interviews that day.
Think about how rare that is in today’s job market. Too often, job seekers are asked to upload resumes into online portals, wait weeks for a response, and navigate a maze of automated processes that can feel impersonal and discouraging. Community WOW puts candidates face-to-face with the people who make hiring decisions and allows them to showcase not just their experience, but their enthusiasm and potential.
This year, that opportunity is more important than ever. According to a recent report from Lightcast, the U.S. is projected to face a shortage of nearly 6 million workers by 2032. That looming gap means employers need to find new ways to connect with job seekers, and communities need to make sure their residents are equipped and empowered to step into available roles.
Events like Community WOW help bridge that gap, bringing people together in ways that benefit both sides.
It’s also worth noting that the diversity of industries represented at WOW is impressive. From healthcare and construction to information technology, public service, and beyond, the expo reflects the wide range of opportunities available in our region.
The invitation is simple: if you are a member of the Tallahassee community and you are seeking employment, career exploration, or a fresh start, this event is for you. Bring a resume if you have one. Dress ready to meet potential employers.
At its core, Community WOW is more than an event. It is an invitation to possibility, a place where jobs and futures meet. Don’t miss your chance to step inside.
