Harry Potter is getting a new adaptation with HBO Max’s television series. While the show is still at least over a year away, one original star is going back to their original role.

Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the eight Harry Potter films between 2001 and 2011, is officially reprising his role. While the actor is not coming back to the upcoming HBO show, he is playing the character again as the adult version in the Broadway stage play of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. In a new interview with People, Felton talked about his return to Draco, and revealed the support he received from former co-star Daniel Radcliffe through the process.

Tony Award winner Radcliffe, who has been combining stage work with feature films since his Harry Potter days, has been with Felton through it all. “My old school chum, Potter, [Daniel] Radcliffe, has done quite a bit of Broadway, so he’s holding my hand and certainly helping me through all the things that are hard to learn,” Felton said.

He also highlighted his excitement to return to Draco, something Felton has been proud of for years, as well as the support he has received from fans. “But from what I gather, it’s an amazing community of people. The fans are really, really gracious and excited. So I’m just thrilled to be part of it.”

The actor will make his return as Draco Malfoy for the first time since the eighth film wrapped in 2011. It’s also his Broadway return. Felton’s debut will also be the first time the stage play featured an actor from the film series. “I just never saw myself having blonde hair again and reprising that role,” the actor told the outlet. “Now as a dad, Draco has a son. So yes, it is an old character, but in a very new set of circumstances. I’m excited to explore it.”

The Harry Potter Universe Keep Thriving

Wizarding World

Although the film series ended almost 15 years ago, and many people have distanced themselves from the franchise due to J.K. Rowling’s controversial stance on trans rights, the Wizarding World keeps thriving. The books will receive a brand-new adaptation as a television series, with a new set of high-profile names attached to it.

At the same time, aside from the ongoing Cursed Child play, the seven books will also get an exciting new version. Audible and Pottermore Publishing teamed up for a very ambitious project with over 200 voice actors that will narrate the series. The new version features more big names like Hugh Laurie, Matthew Macfadyen, James McAvoy, Keira Knightley, and Bill Nighy returning to the world as a different character.

Felton will make his Harry Potter and the Cursed Child debut on Nov. 11. His limited 26-week run is currently scheduled through May 10, 2026.
