The Penn State men’s basketball team is looking to rebound after missing the Big Ten Tournament last season. The Lion’s finished with only 6 league wins and have almost a whole new roster.
Mahanoy City native Mike Rhoades is in his third season as Penn Stats head coach and he has reached out all over the world to fill out this season’s team.
There are only three players who return and 8 transfers on the team including 4 players who have international experience.
Mike Rhoades Penn State Coach( Mahanoy Area) says “Every team is different. Every team. You know, last year, you know, because we had some guys are returning all that stuff. I said if we if we don’t have injuries, we have a chance to have a really good year. And, I wish I would have never said that.
So it didn’t happen. But you know, we didn’t have enough depth to to be a consistent winner in the Big Ten, we just didn’t. I think we’ve addressed that, but we’re just young. Yeah. You know, two things, the urgency to get better all the time and then shock the world. So I really don’t care what anyone else says or other people talk about.
They’re not with us every day, they’re not sweating and bleeding with our team every day. So they don’t know what we’re capable of doing. I just really like this group, we’re going to have some tough days where we learn a lot about ourselves. And going to have some other days I think we surprise a lot of people, but, urgency to get better and the belief we have is pretty awesome.
Penn State opens the season , November 3rd by hosting Fairfield.
