Dow Inc.’s shares rose in premarket trading as improved volumes in the industrial unit helped reduce its loss from the previous quarter more than analysts expected.

The stock advanced as much as 7.6% in premarket trading in New York. The chemical company’s loss per share shrank to 19 cents in the third quarter from 42 cents in the prior period, beating the average analyst estimate of a 30-cent loss. Volume in its industrial unit improved from the prior quarter as new US Gulf Coast plants came online.
