600 Allina Health medical personnel vote to strike
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS is tracking potential health care impacts after more than 600 Allina Health doctors voted to go on strike.
This could be the largest strike of its kind in U.S. history, affecting 60 clinics in Minnesota and one in Wisconsin.
More than 600 doctors, physicians’ assistants and nurse practitioners plan to give a 10-day strike notice on Friday. The union representing them says 90% of its members voted to go on strike, meaning they could walk off the job as early as Nov. 3.
The union and Allina Health have been negotiating since February of last year, with union members requesting better sick leave and safety measures.
In a new statement, Allina Health says it’s “prepared to continue providing safe care to meet the needs of our communities” in the event of a strike.
