Traditions are special, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make new memories as well! Especially during the magic of the holiday season. This year, Nicole Kidman is focusing on one thing amid her divorce from Keith Urban: making the holidays special for their daughters Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.
The Practical Magic star’s mom died in 2024, and 2025 is the first year she’s celebrating the holidays after her public split from Urban. Sources-in-the-know told Us Weekly that Kidman plans to “focus on creating new traditions with her daughters and keeping their home life as steady and loving as possible.”

“The hardest part is navigating the dynamic with their daughters,” the insider said, adding, “The last thing Nicole wanted was a broken family. [She] raised her daughters to be strong and is leading by example for them.” At the same time, the source says that Kidman is in a “good headspace and has been very positive” throughout it all.
In the past, both Kidman and Urban have opened up about their holiday traditions. In an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last year, Kidman said she puts her holiday lights up early. “Yes, I have lights up. I’m the person who has the lights up very, very early. We put them up at the beginning of November,” she said, per The Mirror.
The Babygirl star clarified that they still celebrate Thanksgiving, however. “No, we do a huge Thanksgiving. I just like to have the lights up. So we’ve got the lights up. I apologized (to) all the neighbors,” she went on, adding that she wishes they were called “winter lights” instead of “Christmas lights.”
“We are negotiating calling them winter lights,” Kidman said. “I want to start a whole movement that allows winter lights to stay up. A light up your life movement.”
In a 2023 interview with Access Hollywood, Urban opened up about how family is the most important thing to both him and Kidman during the holidays. “Just being together with extended family ’cause we live in Nashville and we don’t have any family in Nashville,” he shared. “Both of our moms are in Australia, Nic’s sister’s in Australia and her husband and kids and my brother and his kids so all the cousins, uncles, aunts everybody there all there so it’s a nice time to go back and catch up with everybody.”
Despite the split, it seems like the exes are still focused on their family — especially their daughters — as we head into the holiday season.
