While it did not bite them in their 117-116 season-opening loss to the Philadelphia 76ers with a 42-40 edge in their favor, in the Celtics‘ 105-95 loss to the New York Knicks, Boston was seriously beat up in the battle of the boards, with the Knicks out-rebounding the Celtics 53-37.
That dynamic will spell disaster for Boston in the season ahead if the Celtics can’t get their rebounding under control. And with a less experienced frontcourt rotation that is also considerably shorter than it has been in recent campaigns, getting the boards situation tightened up is going to be a tall task (pun intended) for Boston’s bigs this season. Star forward Jaylen Brown weighed in on the discrepancy on the glass that helped keep the Celtics from logging their first win of the season on Friday (Oct. 24) night.

“We’ve got to figure out how to come up with those,” said the Georgia native via the CLNS Media Boston Sports Network. “We have got to get a little more nasty on the glass.”

“I think that was a big deflator for us every time we were on the run,” added Brown. “But we were coming back to offensive rebounds, so we have got to find out how to be more consistent in that manner.
“Defensively, I thought we held up and offensively, just be a little more patient, get a bit more organizational structure, and … get a better rhythm and continuity. And we’re a little out of sync offensively tonight, so we’ll look at it and we’ll be better.”
