Arne Slot’s team selection has been so poor at times this season that his job is not looking as safe as it once was.

After beating Eintracht Frankfurt rather convincingly in the week, many Reds fans would have been hoping that their season kicks on from there, but this has not happened.

Liverpool followed up that performance with a 3-2 defeat away to Brentford, with the scoreline flattering them as it could have been a lot worse.

Not many of the players could hold their heads up high, but one of them who can is Dominik Szoboszlai after yet another brilliant performance.

The Hungarian has been one of Liverpool’s best players so far this season, and was again against Brentford, although Slot did something late in the game that may have cost them big time.

Szoboszlai is quite literally a manager’s dream as wherever he is asked to play, he will happily do it, and do it well.

Earlier on in the season, he played a few games at right-back due to injuries, but he was so impressive that he kept his place there for a bit even when Conor Bradley was back available.

However, since moving him back into midfield, he has shown just how important he is in this part of the pitch, with the 25-year-old impressing game after game.

His engine is an absolute necessity and his quality on the ball is second to none, with it hard to argue against him being Liverpool’s best player right now.

With that said, as the Reds were chasing a goal, Slot decided to bring on Joe Gomez and move the Hungarian to right-back instead, a decision that was baffling to say the least.

Szoboszlai was having a good game and looked like one of the most creative threats, although that reduced massively when he moved further back.

That substitution alone all but killed the game for Liverpool, even if Szoboszlai managed to pick up an assist towards the end of the game for an excellent Mohamed Salah strike.

Right now, Szoboszlai is being let down by his teammates and needs them to help him out a little more, but he also needs his manager to do the same and give him the keys to the midfield.

Arne Slot is under a little bit of pressure

Saying that a manager who won the Premier League last season is under pressure in October may seem a little harsh, but that is the reality right now for Slot.

His team selection has been questioned on a regular basis, so too his substitutions, with performances just not getting any better.

Decisions like moving Szoboszlai to right-back when he had been so influential in the middle of the park is also another move that just seems a little odd, with the Dutchman needing to turn things around pretty quickly.

Up next is Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, a game in which the Eagles very easily could win and beat them for the third time already this season.
