Columbus, OH death metal outfit Sanguisugabogg have commented on what appears to be a manipulated version of their logo showing up on an upcoming new merch offering from streetwear brand Revenge. That jacket is set to go on sale this coming Friday, October 31st. Per their social media, the band were not consulted nor approached ahead of time. They took the time to addressing it on their socials this afternoon (October 29th) as follows:
“(For record, they took our logo without any of us knowing.. a huge street wear company big in hip hop seen on games like gta v)
Damn we got the unofficial @revenge x @sanguisugaboggband collab before GTA 6
Next time tag us..”
Speaking in the comments of Revenge‘s Instagram post announcing the line and offending jacket, Sanguisugabogg were a bit more sour, stating via their band account, “Juice Wrld would never..” followed by a thumbs down emoji. The band’s drummer Cody Davidson further added, “thanks for asking to use our logo i guess? tf?”, while guitarist/bassist Drew Arnold stated, “Send us a check”.
Ironically, there is some legal precedent for this type of logo or trademark brand appropriation in the metal world crossing over into the hip hop world, and it comes via an archnemesis of Sanguisugabogg: Falling In Reverse‘s Ronnie Radke.
Back in 2020, Radke sued rapper Playboy Carti for using the phrase ‘Falling In Reverse’ on one of his merch offerings. That suit ended in a settlement in 2020 with Radke being paid out a lump sum, with additional guarantees that the offending parties would never again use the Falling In Reverse trademark.
