If you need more Paige Bueckers in your life, it’s coming.
The Dallas Wings star is set to lead a new film set in the world of women’s basketball. Based on an original idea by writer Zahir McGhee (Scandal), Buecker will not only star in but executive produce the project, named Jess & Pearl, according to a report from Deadline.
Bueckers is a breakout name in the WNBA, which has been attracting growing amounts of media attention and a marked rise in viewers over the last few years. She was dubbed Rookie of the Year for her record-breaking debut season. In August, she scored 44 points in a single game, one of multiple records she set for rookies.
The new project, which Deadline reports is being developed by Apple Original Films, “follows two phenoms who forge an extraordinary bond as teammates until fame, competition and the ruthless business of college athletics threaten to turn their friendship into an epic rivalry.” In addition to McGhee, the team is rounded out with names like producer David Bernad (The White Lotus).
Bueckers will bring plenty of real-life experience to the role. Prior to her entry into the WNBA, she played for the Huskies at University of Connecticut. She helped lead that team to the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship, which is what led to her number-one pick in the WNBA draft.
Other casting details have not been announced. But, I guess, a dream cast of Bueckers girlfriend Azzi Fudd might be too much to ask for! Fudd, a fellow WNBA player, and Bueckers hard-launched their relationship during Pride month this year. In a photo, fans could see Fudd’s phone case included the words “Paige Buckers’ Girlfriend.” The pair had previously been teammates in Connecticut. Bueckers later said that the hard-launch was “kind of accidental.”
Fans recently speculated that the two have broken up but this week they appeared together on an episode of the competition show Hell’s Kitchen.
