NEC Golfers/Prime Performers of the Month

DURHAM, N.C. – A record-breaking performance by Jamal Hutchison of North Carolina Central helped him earn Northeast Conference (NEC) Men’s Co-Golfer of the Month on Thursday, Oct. 30.

This is the first golf monthly award for Hutchison, who also was named NEC Golf Prime Performer for the second time this season. Freshman golfer Sanaa Carter of NCCU also garnered her first NEC Golf Prime Performer award.

Hutchison’s two-under 208 score broke the NCCU 54-hole record by three strokes at the SAS HBCU Invitational in Cary, N.C. on Oct. 11-12. Hutchison was runner-up at the tournament, finishing three strokes behind medalist Emilio Hernandez of North Carolina A&T.  His stroke average was an impressive 69.3 (72-67-69) which included a season-low 67.

Hutchison avenged his defeat three days later, beating Hernandez 7&6 for NCCU’s lone win in the Eagle-Aggie match play event in Greensboro, N.C.

Carter was also impressive in the month of October, finishing third out of 25 women golfers at the SAS HBCU Invitational and tying for eighth out of 67 golfers at the UNCG Collegiate. Her stroke average was 73.3 including a season-best 71 in each of the two tournaments.
