Many current and former ATP stars have had their say in the past on who they think belongs on Mount Rushmore for men’s tennis.

While most agree that three of the four spots clearly belong to Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal, the fourth name picked varies depending on who you ask.

World number one Carlos Alcaraz named Pete Sampras as his fourth selection, while Boris Becker once picked Bjorn Borg to go on his Mount Rushmore.

For John McEnroe, Rod Laver is the obvious choice, which Andre Agassi agreed with when picking his list.

Now, in an interview with Dexerto, world number four Taylor Fritz has weighed in on the debate.

When posed the question, Fritz was quick with his response, stating: “Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, Sampras. That’s it. That’s the Mount Rushmore.”

Explaining why he picked Sampras, the American said: “I was going strictly off of just Grand Slams, like where I would rank people in the GOAT [Greatest of all time] debate.

“So I would feel like it’d be disrespectful not to put him on next. He’s the next most winningest in Grand Slams.”

Sampras ranks fourth on the all-time list for the most Grand Slam titles won by any men’s player in history with 14.

He broke the record for the outright most major titles in history, surpassing Roy Emerson’s tally in 2000 when he won his seventh Wimbledon crown.

Sampras held the record until 2009, when Federer overtook him by clinching Grand Slam number 15 at the All England Club.

In total, Sampras won 64 tour-level titles over the course of his legendary career, including 11 Masters triumphs and two ATP Finals victories.

Though winning 14 Grand Slam titles remains an incredibly difficult task, two players on the tour are currently on track to match and surpass Sampras’ tally.

Aged 22, world number one Carlos Alcaraz has already won six majors, including two French Opens, two Wimbledon championships, and two US Open titles.

His rival, Jannik Sinner, has four to his name at the age of 24, and looks set to dominate the major scene for the foreseeable future alongside the Spaniard.

Sinner and Alcaraz have split the last eight Grand Slams between them, having both won two each in 2024 and 2025.
