Wild lynx turns heads at Eagle River High School

  • October 31, 2025

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A lynx turned heads at Eagle River Highschool Thursday after strolling calmly across campus – a rare sight that brought Alaska’s wild side right to the school’s doorstep.

The lynx was spotted strolling along a low concrete wall on campus. The school shared photos of the unexpected guest on Facebook, calling it “a beautiful lynx” that “graced our campus… just doing majestic cat things.”

The post described the sighting as “an incredible and rare treat” and celebrated the wild visitor as an “honored guest” – a nod to Alaska’s unique connection with wildlife, even in suburban settings.

Lynx sightings in populated areas are uncommon but not unheard of, especially during the fall and winter months.
