FALMOUTH, Maine (WGME) — A lion’s mane jellyfish was spotted floating near a beach in Falmouth. It was about the size of a car tire.

Experts say Maine has been seeing more of these creatures because of warming ocean temps.

Jellyfish warnings have been issued by several southern Maine communities along the coast this summer.

Lion’s mane are big and a red and purple color, while moon jelly fish are clear and much smaller.

Although beautiful, officials say you should not touch it as they do sting.

These jellyfish can still sting you even if they’re dead, and it’s best to leave them be.
