ARLINGTON, VA — Notorious jokester Brandon Duhaime got his teammates in the holiday spirit this week with a Halloween prank for the ages. Donning a werewolf costume and a fake machete, Duhaime hid in an oversized box before jumpscaring players as they arrived at the rink, eliciting a string of frightened reactions from the normally tough athletes.

Head coach Spencer Carbery was spared from Duhaime’s furry wrath that day, instead laughing alongside Capitals fans at the final video.

“Watched it this morning,” Carbery told reporters on Friday. “Had to watch it again because it was hilarious. That stuff never gets old, especially the early morning stuff where you’re catching people off guard.”

Though Carbery likely didn’t know at the time, an extended cut of the video revealed that Duhaime had tried to add him to his list of victims that morning.

“Hey, go get Carbs. That’d be —” Duhaime said, miming a shocked face.

Carbery also commented on Martin Fehervary’s complete non-reaction to the prank.

“I know, probably inside he was just like –” Carbery mimed tensing up. “It’s amazing, human beings’ different reactions to (situations). Some people would just freeze, some are like, ‘Ahhh!’”

Duhaime may have executed the prank on behalf of the Capitals’ digital media team, but that doesn’t mean his teammates won’t try to get back at him for the scare, as Carbery pointed out on Friday.

“And then the retaliation that Dewey faces after that. That’s — yeah, (the video) was funny,” he said.

At least one player on the team appeared to get their comeuppance on Friday morning, adding a name tag to Duhaime’s helmet.

As for whether anyone else is plotting revenge, that’s for Duhaime’s teammates to know and him to find out.
