Washington Capitals Halloween costumes

The Washington Capitals held their Halloween party on Wednesday night, during their off day (very responsible!), and since then, their costumes have been slowly rolling out on social media.

As you’d might predict, the Caps didn’t disappoint — though we did have two pairs of gladiators. Clearly there’s a battle brewing to be the lead emperor, er, captain in the future.

Washington Capitals costumes

Tom and Taylor are characters from the movie Gladiator. Maybe he’s Maximus and she’s Lucilla?
Ryan Leonard and Trevor van Riemsdyk are Mike and Sully from Monsters, Inc.
Spencer Carbery and his wife Casey are Stanley Ipkiss and Tina Carlyle from The Mask
Martin Fehervary and Natalia were Scooby Doo and Shaggy
Dylan Strome and his wife Tayler were Willy Wonka and Violet from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Nic Dowd and his wife Paige are Johnny Castle and Frances Houseman from Dirty Dancing
Anthony Beauvillier and his girlfriend Emma Simard appear to be characters from Dune.
Declan and Kate Chisholm have Pirates of the Caribbean vibes. Probably Captain Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann?

Ovechkin was also a gladiator, but of the Roman variety, wearing a helmet with a red plume. Nastya’s costume is amazing, featuring a lion medallion on the front of her dress.

The thing I’ve overly focused on is Spencer Carbery’s costume. Not only is it self-aware and plays off his baldness, but it also could be — we can’t be certain — a prank of Trevor van Riemsdyk,

TVR recently revealed the scariest movie that scarred him as a kid in a Capitals social media video.

“I don’t know if it counts as a scary movie,” van Riemsdyk said. “The Mask with Jim Carey where he turns green. Nightmare.”
