WASHINGTON, DC — The Capitals suffered yet another injury to one of their top centers in Friday night’s game against the New York Islanders.

Pierre-Luc Dubois left the contest late in the first period against New York, going down after a faceoff with Isles centerman Jean-Gabriel Pageau. Pageau’s stick appeared to hit Dubois’ right arm before his knees buckled, sending him to the ice.

Dubois did not put weight on his right leg after the injury and needed help to get to the Capitals’ locker room. The Capitals later announced he had sustained a lower-body injury and would not return to the game.

Dubois ended the night with 6:04 in total ice time.

Both Washington and Dubois had already had bad injury luck this season before Friday. Dubois had been back for less than a week after missing five games with a lower-body injury, and the team lost Dylan Strome to injury on Saturday against the Ottawa Senators. The Capitals have now gone without one of their top two centermen for seven of their eleven games so far this fall.

With Dubois, Strome, and Ethen Frank (who suffered an upper-body injury against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday) all hurt, the Capitals have just 11 healthy forwards, though Strome has made steps towards a recovery. If all three remain out of the lineup, the Capitals will need to make a recall from the Hershey Bears before Saturday’s 7 pm game against the Buffalo Sabres.
