Top company executives rarely acknowledge the competition, let alone do so in a light way, so when that happens it tends to get peoples’ attention.

Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee was recently at an event in South Korea, where he would have expected to see more Galaxy devices than iPhones in the crowd. He couldn’t help but crack a joke when we saw way too many iPhones being used to record him.

Jay Y. Lee finds himself in an Apple orchard

Samsung’s Jay Y. Lee and NVIDIA’s Jensen Huang had a meeting in Seoul, South Korea this week. The two leaders also hung out, enjoying beer and fried chicken in what appears to be a highly choreographed appearance meant to highlight the close relationship between the two companies.

The outing also involved an appearance from Jay Y. Lee at NVIDIA’s GeForce Gamer Festival where he took the stage for some brief remarks. A lot of young people at the festival were happy to see one of the country’s top business leaders address them, so naturally, they had their phones out to record his remarks.

Lee starts out, and then takes a moment to gesture into the crowd and say “Why are there so many iPhones here?” in a very lighthearted manner, getting a few good laughs from the crowd.

He would have liked nothing more to have a sea of Galaxy devices being pointed at him from the crowd, but at least he’s gracious enough to have a little fun at his own expense, quite literally. Now that’s something you’d never see from Apple’s Tim Cook!
