BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The City of Boise has reported a sanitary sewer overflow that occurred on the evening of Nov. 1, affecting the Thurman Drain area north of Chinden Blvd. and east of S. Eagle Rd.

A power surge at the West Boise Water Renewal Facility disrupted operations, leading to a backup that caused untreated wastewater to overflow. City crews quickly contained and cleaned the spill. Officials confirmed that drinking water and residential sewer systems remain unaffected, with no known public health risks.

“The security of our infrastructure and safety of our community is our highest priority,” said Boise Public Works Director Steve Burgos. The city is investigating the incident and conducting additional sampling to ensure no public health concerns arise. Residents will be notified if any risks are identified. This type of overflow is rare, with no similar incidents in the past 20 years.
