WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Trump joined CBS’s 60 Minutes on Sunday, marking his first appearance on the program in five years.

Trump discussed topics including U.S.-China relations, Venezuela, Israel, the government shutdown, immigration and the National Guard.

Trump spoke and criticized the Democrats’ healthcare plan, saying he is willing to work with the Democrats to achieve affordable healthcare.

“We will work on fixing the bad health care that we have. Right now, we have terrible health care and too expensive for the people, not for the government, for the people,” Trump said.

Trump also defended his use of the National Guard and ICE in big cities to combat crime and crack down on illegal immigration.

“The policy has to be you came into the country illegally, you’re going to go out. However, you’ve also seen that you’re going to go out. We’re going to work with you, and you’re going to come back into our country legally,” Trump said.

Trump also mentioned meeting with Presidents Xi and Putin, saying his focus is on denuclearization. He affirmed his decision to begin testing out U.S. nuclear weapons, saying, “We’re the only country that doesn’t test, and I want to be— I don’t want to be the only country that doesn’t test.”

He also spoke about peace in the Middle East and his firm stance on ensuring both Israel and Hamas keep the terms of the peace deal brokered by the U.S.

Trump said if Hamas does not “behave,” they “could be taken out immediately.”

To end the interview, Trump reflected on his second term so far, speaking positively of his work since he was inaugurated in January.

“I hope I can have the same year that we had. Look, we have been acknowledged to have the greatest nine months. You know, it’s nine months. The greatest nine months in the history of the presidency. So if I can keep that going I’ll be very happy,” Trump said.

The interview is Trump’s first with CBS since he sued and then settled with CBS’s parent company, Paramount, over a 2024 election interview with then Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Trump was scheduled to speak with 60 Minutes during the 2024 election special, but then cancelled after indicating he would be on the show.
