Volunteer Alex Landry, left, an LSU pre-med student with the Alpha Epsilon Delta service organization, listens to the heartbeat of Baton Rouge’s Mitchell Pea, right, as he takes Pea’s blood pressure while assisting staff at the Baton Rouge Cardiology Center’s screening clinic at the Louisiana MenÕs Health Organization’s (LMHO) 18th Annual MenÕs Health Conference, Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Pennington Biomedical Research Center. It was one of several tests and a heart health risk assessment offered by the BR Cardiology Center, whose interventional cardiologist Dr. Daniel T. Fontenot was a speaker at the conference. He noted that people should know the medical community has recently been revising its opinion and reccomentations on several important cardiac risk factors and their treatment, including high blood pressure, statin use to lower cholesterol, and daily aspirin use. The conference offers many screenings, speakers and informational exhibits to heighten awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment, as well as to educate on health risks specific to men of different ages and races, according to Dr. Curt Chastain, President of the LMHO and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center MenÕs Health Center.
