The picture of Azzi Fudd playing alongside WNBA elite Napheesa Collier does indeed seem picture-perfect. As exciting as it might appear to the fans across the league, Fudd would also get the chance to play alongside her favorite player [apart from Paige Bueckers].

However, as perfect as the pairing might turn out to be, it seems like a very unlikely scenario. When the idea was also thrown at Fudd, she cleverly ducked the question, diverting focus to the card game at hand.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Katie Barnes spoke to Azzi Fudd over a card game called “Dinger.” The conversation seamlessly glided from her years at UConn and training to her potentially declaring for the draft next year.

In light of her life in the future at the WNBA, Fudd revealed that one of the things that she might miss after joining the league would be missing her time at her grandparents’ house in Minnesota. She said that she spent her summer in Minnesota playing card games and spending family time together.

Barnes then slid a scenario where Azzi Fudd could have a possibility to be around her grandparents, joining Napheesa Collier and Co. in Minnesota. When the ESPN reporter slid the info that the Lynx held the Chicago Sky’s lottery pick, Fudd didn’t take the bait.

“Is that a jack?” Fudd pointed towards the card on the table.

Azzi Fudd is a projected 3rd pick in the 2026 draft, which is held by the Seattle Storm. The Sky holds the 5th pick, which is held by the Lynx.

Geno Auriemma reveals Azzi Fudd’s reason behind staying at UConn

Before the 2025 WNBA draft, Azzi Fudd had won the national title and was named the MOP of the Final Four. She could have been one of the top picks in the draft. However, the UConn star decided to stay at UConn and play another year.

Fudd had made up her mind to skip the 2025 draft, and she told her coach the reasons behind her decision to stay and play one more year before moving to the WNBA.

“And through all these question-and-answers that we asked, that I asked, she said, ‘I’m not ready,'” Auriemma told ESPN about his conversation with Fudd. “‘I haven’t played enough basketball to feel confident about going there and playing at the highest level.'”

Fudd has one more season to play at UConn and defend the title. Fudd is willing to embrace the challenge of winning it all without Paige Bueckers.
