NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE

The radar shows high surf for the north- and west-facing shores of all Hawaiian Islands.

A high surf advisory has been issued for the north- and west-facing shores of all Hawaiian Islands, effective through 6 p.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service says a large, north-northwest swell is expected to build today, boosting surf heights to 12 to 18 feet along north shores, and 8 to 12 along feet along west shores.

The advisory covers the north- and west-facing shores of Kauai County, Oahu, and Molokai, and the north shores of Maui and Hawaii island.

NWS warns that strong, breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous in these areas.

Concurrently, early-morning high tides combined with water levels higher than predicted will lead to minor flooding in low-lying coastal areas.

The public should avoid driving through flooded roadways, and move electronics, vehicles or other valuables to higher ground. Canoes or other watercraft stowed on beaches should be secured.

Don’t miss out on what’s happening!

“Heed all advice from ocean safety officials,” said officials. “When in doubt, don’t go out.”
