Patrick Dorgu broke his silence and spoke out on one first-team Manchester United player under Ruben Amorim after the 0-0 draw against Leeds United on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Danish wing-back, who can play on either flank as a defender, arrived at Old Trafford in the January transfer window from Italian side Lecce.

Manchester United paid a transfer fee of around £25m (€30m), including a further £4.1m (€5m) in add-ons, to sign Patrick Dorgu from Serie A outfit Lecce in February.

Red Devils and Denmark defender Dorgu has been Ruben Amorim’s preferred pick to play in the left wing-back role in the 40-year-old United manager’s tactical system.

But Dorgu had to settle for a place on the Red Devils’ bench in United’s pre-season opener against Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena in Sweden on the weekend.

Amorim decided to try out new signing Diego Leon in the left wing-back role in the 0-0 draw before swapping the Paraguayan wonderkid out at half-time for Dorgu.

Rasmus Hojlund struggled to impress in his second full season at Old Trafford and the 22-year-old Danish forward has attracted transfer interest from clubs in Italy.

The Manchester United striker reported to pre-season training at Carrington earlier this month and Rasmus Hojlund has insisted that he wants to remain at the club.

Hojlund has attracted interest from Inter Milan and other Serie A clubs like Roma and AC Milan have had their names attached to the Denmark international.

Ruben Amorim has been tipped to bring in a new striker this summer and Hojlund’s long-term future under the former Sporting CP manager is shrouded in mystery.

Speaking after United’s 0-0 draw with Leeds United in Stockholm, Patrick Dorgu admitted that Rasmus Hojlund wants to “redeem” himself at the Red Devils.

“I think most of the players had a step back last season,” he said, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“I think everyone wants to redeem themselves this season and I think Rasmus is the same.”

Dorgu continued: “I have more to bring to the team, more to give. I’m just getting ready for the season, using all these pre-season games to get fit.

“Hopefully, we’ll see the best of me and the team in the first game.”

Rasmus Hojlund can still show his worth to Ruben Amorim during the pre-season summer tour with Man Utd

United manager Amorim was left frustrated in the 2024-25 Premier League season after the difficulties of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as the lone striker.

Hojlund, who is under contract with United until 2028, only netted 10 times and registered four assists in 52 matches across all competitions in the previous season.

The Denmark striker was on the bench for the Leeds match and was subbed at half time after Amorim replaced Chido Obi with Hojlund for the pre-season friendly.

Hojlund failed to make an impact as a substitute and the United forward has the rest of the pre-season tour to show why he should be Amorim’s first-choice striking pick.
