The Pittsburgh Steelers have made some roster moves ahead of their Week 10 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, per a press release issued by the team. ILB Mark Robinson was elevated from the practice squad, RB Trey Sermon was signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, and DE DeMarvin Leal circled back to the practice squad after being waived on Thursday.

Rookie Carson Bruener beat out Robinson for the last spot in the ILB room as a core special teams player. He was cut in August on cutdown day and has spent time with the New England Patriots and New York Jets since then. He signed to the Steelers’ practice squad at the beginning of this week and will now get a helmet against the Chargers on Sunday Night Football.

The former seventh-round draft pick has made a name for himself on special teams, including a pair of forced fumbles last season. He used to play on both coverage and return units for Pittsburgh, so expect something similar in Week 10. He can also provide depth at inside linebacker with Cole Holcomb out with an illness.

Sermon has been on the practice squad since roster cutdowns and was a standout player during the preseason for Pittsburgh. He was already elevated from the practice squad three times, so they needed to sign him to the active roster in order to continue playing him in games. He has played 28 special teams snaps for the Steelers in three games, including duties on both coverage and both return units. He has returned two kicks for a total of 51 yards.

Leal lands back on the practice squad. Familiarity and athletic traits are keeping him around, but they barely used him while he was on the active roster. He only has 17 defensive snaps and nine special teams snaps in three games this season.
