Kate Middleton made a surprise appearance at the Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall—with a very special person on her arm.
As her husband Prince William travels back to the U.K. from a five-day trip to Brazil, the Princess of Wales was joined by her eldest son, Prince George, on November 8 in what marks his first appearance at Remembrance events. This is a major step forward for the 12-year-old as he adds on additional royal roles as the years go on in his gradual preparation to become king.

The future queen channeled Princess Diana in a black dress with a white lace collar from favorite brand Alessandra Rich. She wore Queen Elizabeth’s Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings, a cross necklace that Kate has owned since at least 2005, her Scottish Silver Thistle brooch, and a poppy pin—which honors those who lost their lives in war—to accessorize for her first public appearance in three weeks.
Per Tatler, Diana wore a similar outfit to the 25th London Film Festival, and the late Princess of Wales tended to favor an oversized collar in many of her looks.

Though she has been out of the public eye for three weeks, Kate has kept busy—her kids George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis were on half-term break from school from October 17 to November 3, and during that time the Wales family of five moved from the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage to the eight-bedroom Forest Lodge, which has been described as the family’s “forever home.”
