Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision in Apopka this morning that resulted in the death of three teenagers and serious injuries to three others.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 1:37 am, a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old male resident of Apopka was traveling eastbound on Welch Road, approaching Wekiwa Drive.

As he advanced, the driver lost control while negotiating a curve. As a result, the pickup truck ran off the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned.

The driver and two male passengers, ages 14 and 15 from Apopka, were transported to area hospitals with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

A 17-year-old male from Apopka was transported to AdventHealth Apopka and pronounced deceased. Two other passengers, 17 and 13-year-old Apopka residents, were pronounced deceased on the scene. 

The FHP did not release the names of the driver or passengers involved in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
