Yesterday, it was announced that Our, after a decade of being one of the few female-led NASCAR/ARCA teams in the field, has shut down. On paper, it is not notable that a team with a few top fives and a pole is gone. But that’s only on the surface.
Failed Ambition, Insecurity, and Short-Term Thinking!
Our Motorsports started in ARCA. Fielding cars for the likes of Josh Williams and Andy Seuss, among others. After five years, they went to the Xfinity Series, and in the weirdest year too, 2020. Our hired Brett Moffitt, who was in the middle of a weird career arc of his own. Going from a part-time driver to a truck series champion in 2018 to a driver on a new top truck team. For 2020, he was a driver for a brand-new mid-pack Xfinity Series team.
A Match Made In Heaven!
Moffitt and Our Motorsports had 1 top five and 7 top tens. That was in 29 of the 33 races. He shared the seat with ex-Cup Series driver and sportscar legend Andy Lally, who was supposed to drive the No. 03 part-time, but due to COVID cancelling qualifying, it DNQ’d all the races it was entered in.
He gave the team two additional back-to-back top 5s to feel proud of, and fans noticed. With its RCR alliance and Kaulig at its peak, the comparison was easy to make, and many did. Hoping to see Our go from mid-pack to a top team in the same way.
Things Were Looking Up!
2021 was even better for the team! Improving from 7 top 10s for Moffitt to 10 top tens in 31 races. He finished 21st in the standings, beating other drivers who attempted all 33 races. With extra money coming in from Ty Dillon buying out Moffitt’s ride for 2 races, everything seemed to be looking up for them, but their next move shocked many, and for great reasons.
Expanding from 1 FT and 1 PT car to three full-time entities, the 23 and 27. In the No. 23 was the fast and awesome Anthony Alfredo, who came with sponsorship from Dude Wipes, which makes me smirk too. Jeb Burton had funding from State Water Heaters and Golden Corral. He has now found his feet with JAR, but back then, outside of a win at Talladega, he looked below average at this point in his career. Rising question marks everywhere.
Strangest Part Of 2022 Season
Our fired their franchise guy 20 races into the season. His performance dipped slightly, having 5 top tens and beating Jeb Burton in points. So why fire someone who brought your startup team such great results? Well, they said themselves, they had sponsorship issues with Moffitt. The most notable part of the season was Jeb Burton’s horrific flip at Pocono. This roller coaster ride was only going down and down as they would shut down both the 23 and 27 rides, firing both drivers.
2023 Started Strangely, Too!
As the No. 02 started the year with David Starr, who only did the first two races before being let go. Our hired respected Kyle Weatherman, but he did four races and was replaced by Blaine Perkins, and then after one more race at Dover, he was fired and replaced by Perkins. Blaine had been a part-time driver for Our, and while he showed flashes of promise, none of those came to fruition. As he didn’t get a single top ten and even DNQ’d in Texas.
Things Only Got Stranger As Alfredo Returned In 2024!
It was Alfredo’s best season ever, finishing 15th in points with 2 top fives and 6 top tens. This gave fans hope again, which immediately faded when they fired him for Kris Wright. A pay driver infamous for their wrecks. He would go on to have some of his most infamous moments in 2025.
Such as him losing control entering pit road and destroying Bilicki’s car. Then wrecking a dominant Allgaier at Texas after switching lanes at random as a lapper. Their next race at Dover with Grala will be their race, leaving their ambition tragically unfulfilled.
