CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians have filled one vacancy on their coaching staff, but they still have one more to go.

On Wednesday, the Guardians hired Andy McKay, Seattle’s assistant general manager, as their new field coordinator. He’ll replace Kai Correa, who left at the end of the season to be the bench coach for the Mets.

The Guardians still need to hire a bench coach to replace Craig Albernaz, who was recently named manager of the Baltimore Orioles.

In Cleveland, Correa had the title of Field Coordinator/Director of Defense, Baserunning and Game Strategy. It is not known if McKay’s title will be that long, but he will fill Correa’s spot on the staff.

McKay, who has a connection with Guardians manager Stephen Vogt, has been with the Mariners since 2015. Vogt was the Mariners’ bullpen coach in 2023 before becoming the Guardians manager in 2024.

The Mariners hired McKay as director of player development in 2015. He helped strengthen their farm system. He was promoted to Assistant GM by Jerry Dipoto, president of baseball operations, in November 2022.

Before joining the Mariners, McKay was the peak performance coordinator for the Rockies for four years. Prior to that he was the head baseball coach at Sacramento College for 14 years and managed in the Northwoods League, a wood bat league for college players.

Baseball America rated Seattle’s farm system as the best in baseball before the 2022 season.
