The health care network confirmed that a “small number of positions” were impacted in a recent standard business review.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — Corewell Health laid off some staff on Tuesday.

A spokesperson said a very small number of positions were impacted during a recent standard business review. The health network went on to say that they have thousands of job openings and that they are actively hiring.

Corewell Health would not share the exact number of positions eliminated nor which department was impacted.

13 ON YOUR SIDE spoke with a Corewell Health employee who said they were impacted by the layoffs. This person wanted to remain anonymous.

This source said 12 to 20 employees in the communications department were laid off, and the source said they believe it’s due to the federal cuts to Medicare and Medicaid.

One person in Grand Rapids was not laid off, according to this now former employee.

Communication departments at hospital networks are responsible for internal and external messaging that supports employees, patients, and the public. They also manage media relations, crisis communication, and internal storytelling.

The healthcare network is Michigan’s largest hospital system. Spectrum Health and Beaumont Health merged in 2022 to create Corewell Health.Â
