James Van Der Beek is parting ways with ephemera from two of his most iconic projects.

The Texas Rangers actor is selling costumes and props from Dawson’s Creek and Varsity Blues as part of Propstore’s Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction. Van Der Beek will use the proceeds to pay for his continuing medical treatments after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2023.

“I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them, and with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it’s clear that the time is now,” the actor told PEOPLE. “While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore’s auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years.”

The most iconic item that Van Der Beek is selling is the necklace that he wore as Dawson Leery on Dawson’s Creek across three seasons of the show (before his character gave it to Katie Holmes’ Joey as a gift). The accessory is described as “a black metal chain necklace with a polished black stone pendant” that now “exhibits minor tarnishing to the stone’s pendant loop.”

The starting bid for the necklace is £10,000. Propstore estimates that the necklace will sell for £20,000-£40,000 at the London auction in December.

Van Der Beek is also auctioning off a white jumper/white cotton trousers ensemble that he donned on the show’s pilot episode. The starting bid for that lot is £750, and Propstore expects it to sell for £1,500-£3,000.

Bids for the rest of Van Der Beek’s lots will start at £500, and they are all estimated to sell for around £1,000-£2,000. Other Dawson’s items up for auction include a flannel shirt that Van Der Beek wore throughout the series, a chairback with his character’s name from the season 6 production, and a set of movie-themed decorations from Dawson’s bedroom, including an E.T. plush toy and an Indiana Jones vinyl kit.

Van Der Beek is also parting ways with two items from the 1999 sports movie Varsity Blues. The actor is auctioning off the cleats that he wore in multiple football scenes as Jonathan “Mox” Moxon, as well as his West Canaan Coyotes snapback hat that he sported throughout the film.

Van Der Beek previously missed a Dawson’s Creek reunion event raising money for the F Cancer charity in September. “I wanted to stand on that stage and thank every single person in this theater for being here tonight. From the cast to the crew to everybody who’s donated time and been so generous,” the actor said in a video message after dropping out of the event due to a stomach virus. “And especially every single last one of you, the best fans in the world.”
